ModeCapriole the book
The result of a special collaboration.
Lies Vogelzang looks through the camera with an open mind. She photographs with great feeling and attention to light and composition. Her images make the invisible visible. They tell stories and make us stop and admire the beauty of the detail.
Agnes and Lies met in gallery De Ruimte in Geldrop, where they discovered that they had quite a few shared fascinations. For special materials such as cabbage leaves, fish skins, feathers, horsetails, shells and mandarin peels. For special locations such as the beach in Zeeland, café Casino, an old pub in Eindhoven, De Pastoor van Arskerk with its beautiful vaults and the Landschaftspark in Duisburg. An intensive, equal collaboration begins.
ModeCapriole
Agnes and Lies do not work with deadlines, the artistic process and the wonder of each other’s work and inventions are paramount. They translate fantasy and technical qualities into unique creations and photos. Nothing is too crazy, and they experiment to their heart’s content with great pleasure: with form and light, movement and stillness, simplicity and abundance. After ten years of collaboration, Agnes and Lies bundle the highlights of their gesamtkunstwerken in the festive book ModeCapriole.
We leaf through chapters with titles such as: ‘Ocean adventure’, ‘Tactile skin’, ‘Cabinet of curiosity’ and ‘Dance of birds’. We see softly rustling fabrics, whispering silk, waving feather works. Fashion artworks made of orange peel, shells and horsehair: caressing the senses. All our senses are activated while we see mysterious, dreamy, sensual, playful women in the sea, city or café, or against simple dark or colorful backgrounds. Their clothes flow, rustle and twirl.
We see models on the catwalk, and behind it, where Agnes pins, ties, looks and approves. The camera zooms in and out, dances around the models. Details of materials become sculptures, colorful ecstasy, they bathe in picturesque light. We read texts as poems. We taste, smell, feel and surrender to baroque absurdism, the sensual theater. We let ourselves be sucked into the book, in a journey through the swirling world of imagination, experiment and beauty of Lies Vogelzang and Agnes van Dijk.
